History
The name is taken from the local name of an area in Loughton associated with Ambresbury
Banks which is the name given to the remains of an Iron Age hill fort in Epping Forest.
According to legend – not proved - it is the site of the last stand by Boudica against the
Romans in the year 61. It was one of a series of hill forts that deliniate the disputed
territories of the warring Trinovantes and Catuvellauni tribes. Consecrated in December 1893
it met at the Loughton Masonic Hall but in June 2016 relocated to the Cross Keys Centre at
Chadwell St. Mary which has seen its re-birth to becoming once again a thriving Preceptory.
