History
Named after a Past Prov. Prior (1982-83) of Essex. Freddie Hughes was a great churchman, a Warden
of St. Michaels Church in Cornhill, London and a great Freemason having been an Asst. PGM in the
Craft and active in many Degrees. It is the only Essex Preceptory that meets outside of the
County - in London - and has had a somewhat nomadic existence from when it was consecrated at
the Old Sessions House (then a Masonic centre) at Clerkenwell Green in December 1990. Different
homes have been at The Gun Public House in Spittlefields, the Royal National Hotel in Bedford Way
and most recently the Civil Service Club, Great Scotland Yard. The last move was to Mark Masons Hall
which is well prepared and equiped for masonic activity. This Preceptory being the western
(London) outpost of Essex KT.
