History
The Preceptory had its foundation in Orsett for a variety of reasons amongst which were that many of
its Founders were either resident in that area of South Essex or close by or were involved in Craft
lodges and Royal Arch chapters at the Masonic Hall situated in the village. The crest displays the
Church (constructed during the 11th and 12th centuries) a clearly-defined landmark visible from all
points of the compass on the top of the Langdon Hills in a shield with a Knight Templar Sword in a
position of ‘’prayer’’ behind the crest with a Templar Helmet over the hilt.
